Assisted hatching, also called assisted hatching, is a complementary technique in assisted reproduction that is performed prior to embryo transfer to the uterus. This procedure consists of making a small hole in the zona pellucida of the embryo to facilitate its expansion.
However, assisted hatching is not recommended for all patients. This technique should only be performed when strictly necessary, such as in the following situations:
- Eggs presenting a thickened zona pellucida.
- Women over 37 years of age and with previous unsuccessful IVF cycles.
- Transfer of frozen embryos.
- Embryos that present a high percentage of fragments.
In any case, it is best to follow the indications established by the specialists.
