What is the arcuate uterus?

76

Arcuate uterus is a type of uterine anomaly that is quite common in the female population and is characterized by the presence of a small septum. Because it is such a small septum, it is usually considered a variant of the normal uterus rather than a malformation of the uterus.

For this reason, arcuate uterus does not affect female fertility and, in most cases, pregnancy and delivery are normal.

Generally, women with an arcuate uterus do not know it until they have a vaginal ultrasound, since they have no alteration in their ability to gestate a baby. In addition, this type of uterus does not cause any discomfort to the woman.
