All sperm donor candidates must meet the criteria established in Spanish legislation. Otherwise, candidates will be rejected from the gamete donor programme.
Some of the essential requirements to be met by potential sperm donors are the following:
- Be over 18 years of age. The legal age limit to donate sperm is 50 years, but most fertility clinics set a lower limit of 35-40 years.
- Not suffer from any sexually transmitted infections or STIs.
- Have a normal karyotype, as well as no history of genetic diseases.
- Have a high seminal quality.
- Be in good psychological health.
