The exact cause of autoimmune diseases is unknown. However, three factors have been found to influence their occurrence:
- Alteration in immune regulation.
- Genetic predisposition.
- Environmental factors.
When a woman suffering from an autoimmune disease wants to seek pregnancy it is important to consult with the doctor, because the gestation-disease relationship can be dangerous not only for the mother but also for the fetus.
