Mammography is the most effective diagnostic test for detecting malignant breast tumors at an early stage. It consists of a special x-ray device that takes various x-rays of the breasts to be evaluated by a specialist.
If suspicious signs of malignancy are detected in the breasts, the specialist will request more tests per image, such as mammary ultrasound and magnetic resonance, to make a more accurate diagnosis. A breast biopsy may also be indicated.
