Although hCG is the typical pregnancy hormone, there are some conditions in which this hormone can be detected without pregnancy (or without pregnancy developing properly). This can occur in:
Ectopic pregnancy.
Anembryonic pregnancy.
After medication-assisted reproduction treatments.
Molar pregnancy.
Certain diseases and tumors.
For this reason, if a positive result is obtained in a pregnancy test, it is important to see a specialist in order to verify that the pregnancy is occurring correctly.
