Chemotherapy drugs are aimed at eliminating cells that divide very quickly within the body, such as tumour cells. However, an unwanted side effect is that they also destroy sperm and germ cells in the case of the male, as these cell types also have a high potential for division.
As a result, a man may suffer temporary or permanent infertility after receiving cancer treatment.
