The most commonly applied method for preserving fertility in cancer patients is the cryopreservation of gametes, whether sperm in men or eggs in women.
Other methods under investigation are the cryopreservation of testicular tissue or ovarian tissue, especially in the case of children with cancer who have not reached puberty.
