Gestational loss before reaching the 20th week of pregnancy can be due to several reasons. One of them is genetic alterations.
If the egg and sperm are chromosomally altered, the resulting embryo will also be altered. As a consequence, the embryo will stop developing and a miscarriage will occur.
In this sense, genetic alterations in the gametes and, especially in the egg, increase as the years go by. Similarly, the risk of miscarriage also increases.
