Cone biopsy is a short-term surgical procedure to remove abnormal tissue from the cervix. To do this, an incision is made in the shape of a cone, comprising the external part of the cervix (exocervix) as the base and the internal part of the cervix (endocervix) as the tip of the cone.
The removed tissue is then observed in the laboratory to check for abnormal cells.
