An increased rate of aneuploidy in spermatozoa may be the cause of repeated miscarriage. Alterations in sperm chromosome number will result in embryos with abnormal genetic content that may not be viable, leading to miscarriages.
Sperm FISH is a test that evaluates the number of copies of certain chromosomes studied in the sperm. If the result is altered, a pre-implantation genetic test (PGT) could be recommended for embryos obtained through assisted reproduction. This would guarantee the transfer of embryos with an appropriate number of chromosomes to the woman's uterus.
