Gamete donors are selected by the fertility clinic staff based on the physical and immunological characteristics of the recipients. This is known as phenotypic matching.
In addition, thanks to the genetic compatibility test, an egg donor can also be matched with a sperm donor with guarantees that the resulting embryo will not be affected by a recessive genetic disease, since many people are unknowingly carriers of this type of disease. This is what is known as genetic matching.
