Tobacco consumption during pregnancy turns the fetus into a passive smoker exposed to the harmful effects of the components of tobacco smoke.
Smoking can lead to bronchial asthma and increased risk of respiratory infections, in addition to other neurological and cardiac consequences on the health of newborn babies.
In the long term, smoking can lead to behavioral deficits, lower IQ, attention deficit disorders and hyperactivity. These children will also be more prone to obesity, hypertension and tooth decay.
