Long-term embryo culture is not recommended in all cases, but it is necessary to study a set of factors and each specific patient. Culture to the blastocyst stage is typically recommended in the following situations:

- Previous implementation failures.
- When preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is going to be performed on the embryos.
- Optimization of cycles to vitrify the best embryos.
