Retrograde menstruation is the inability to completely eliminate all endometrial tissue through the vaginal bleeding typical of menstruation. As a consequence, the endometrial fragments that cannot be removed flow into the fallopian tubes and may reach some pelvic organs such as the ovaries. For all these reasons, it is believed that retrograde menstruation could be one of the causes of endometriosis.
