Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) can indeed become mothers naturally, although it is very likely that they will have some difficulty if their menstrual cycles are irregular.

To find out if a natural pregnancy is possible, a woman with PCOS is first recommended to have a complete check-up with the following tests:

Gynaecological examination
to check the condition of the ovaries, tubes, uterus, etc. and make sure that, except for the polycystic ovaries, everything else is OK.
Endocrine analysis
to check insulin, triglyceride and cholesterol levels, and determine if weight loss is necessary to help regulate hormones.
Psychological screening
The search for pregnancy can be a long and frustrating process in this case. You need to be psychologically prepared and positive.

Lo más importante es que tenga lugar la ovulación, es decir, la expulsión del óvulo maduro a la trompa de Falopio para que pueda ser fecundado por un espermatozoide. Sometimes, simply losing a little weight can help to regulate the menstrual cycle without the need to take any medication.

Weight loss in women with a BMI>28 kg/m2 with lifestyle modification is always the first option to restore ovarian function and achieve pregnancy.
