Cristina Algarra, psychologist specialized in assisted reproduction for InviTRA, explains in this video how your provider can diagnose you with an ovarian cyst:

To diagnose a cyst there are several techniques a medical professional can perform.

First palpation, these are sacs filled with fluid so it is easy to identify them thru palpation, this can be external (thru the stomach) or intravaginally. They can also be diagnosed thru a sonogram, the cyst would appear in the ultrasound.

It is very important to rule out pregnancy, if the patient is pregnant the cyst can be formed by the HCG hormone, so it is very important to know if this is the case.

Once there is a confirmatory diagnosis of the presence of a cyst it is necessary to undergo some complementary tests, these would be imaging to identify the size and location of the cyst and then some blood work to look for a specific marker, CA125 that can be an indicator that the cyst is a malign cyst or even a tumor
