Delayed abortion or missed abortion is the loss of a pregnancy during the first trimester of pregnancy. There are four main causes of missed abortion that we should know about: the genetic profile, uterine anatomy, infections or other diseases such as immunological, endocrinological, or blood-related.
When joining an egg and a sperm to form an embryo, it is possible that there may be some malformation at the level of the chromosomes. This may affect any of them or even the total number of them. Although it is true that, in some cases, these pregnancies can reach term, the most normal thing is that our body rejects them, generating a miscarriage to stop it.
In addition, the shape of each woman's uterus can be a reason for abortion, by not allowing the embryo to adhere to it. However, not all malformations are identical and some may improve adhesion with a second attempt. Among the main types of uterus we find the uterus:
- Dysmorphic
- the walls of the uterus are thicker.
- Septate
- has an internal septum that can divide the uterus into two chambers.
- Bicorporeal
- with a notch towards the central part.
- Hemiuterus
- presents a single cavity.
- Aplastic
- not fully developed.
The most frequent are the dysmorphic or septate uterus, which can develop an embryo in perfect condition.
