Why is IMSI such a slow technique?

By Marta Barranquero Gómez B.Sc., M.Sc. (embryologist).
Last Update: 02/17/2025

IMSI is very time consuming as it is a very laborious technique and embryologists must be highly qualified for it.

In some cases, it is even necessary to have two embryologists working simultaneously to reduce the procedure time and minimize the subjectivity factor.

In addition, due to the magnification of the microscope, it is more difficult to find the spermatozoa in the field of view. All this makes IMSI a very tedious technique.
