To freeze the eggs, the patient must go to a fertility clinic and follow the steps indicated by the doctor:
- Self injection with hormonal medication in order to stimulate egg maturation.
- Follicular puncture - the ovum pick-up procedure - a surgery to remove the eggs from the ovaries.
- The extracted eggs will be frozen by vitrification
Vitrification keeps the oocytes in liquid nitrogen at -320.8°F (-196°C) for an unlimited period of time until the woman decides to have children. At this point, the woman can have in vitro fertilization (IVF) with her frozen eggs.
