Sperm freezing process

Semen freezing is a low complexity technique in the field of assisted reproduction. The man must obtain the semen sample by masturbation and cryoprotectants will be added in the laboratory to avoid damaging the sample.

The process is carried out by slow freezing and the semen can be kept at a low temperature for an indefinite period of time. Normally, semen freezing is recommended for oncology patients, patients who are going to undergo vasectomy, patients with low sperm quality and/or patients with difficulty in obtaining the sample on the day of ovarian puncture or partner insemination.

In addition, sperm from sperm donors is also frozen for a minimum period of 6 months to confirm the absence of any infection.
