Ultrasound in the second trimester is the most important of all, as it can detect foetal malformations. Given certain parameters, gynaecologists recommend further invasive prenatal diagnostic tests such as amniocentesis, for example.
This second pregnancy ultrasound is usually performed between 16 and 20 weeks of gestation. The second trimester ultrasound provides information about foetal morphology, cardiac status, foetal measurements and even the sex of the baby.
