In the body, a balance must be struck between reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the antioxidants that are responsible for neutralizing them. Thus, when there is an increase in ROS or a decrease in antioxidants, this balance is lost and oxidative stress appears.
This oxidative stress can affect the sperm membrane and also cause sperm DNA fragmentation, which is why taking foods rich in antioxidants can help to improve the quality of the male's sperm.
