Family history of cancer and egg donation

    Hi there,

I’d like to donate my eggs, but the truth is breast cancer runs in my family… My granny died of breast cancer, and my mother and aunty overcame it. Now my first cousin is going through breast cancer screening. It’s terrible, I know.

What I’d like to know is whether I will be ruled out as a donor because of this.

    Thanks in advance,
    Emma

  2. Dear Emma,

I am sorry to tell you that the most likely is that you are not accepted as an egg donor due to the risk of transmission of cancer risk genes. However, my advice is that you visit a fertility clinic and tell them about your particular case in order to determine whether your family history prevents you from becoming an egg donor or not.

I hope I have been able to help,

    Regards
