BlossomHi, I had an abortion done on August 12. I bled only the day of the abortion. After that I only have discharged and one week later I started to bleed no heavily, it was light. I went to the follow-up appointment and the lady said that my uterus was empty and that she didn’t see no pregnancy in there, only a little bit of blood. I took a pregnancy test 2 weeks and 2 days today and still shows positive. Can I still be pregnant? I haven’t had sex since the abortion.

The termination of pregnancy worked, but it takes some time for the body to return to normality and hCG levels to return to zero again. How long it takes varies on each woman. My advice is that you are patient and take another test within 2 weeks approximately for your own peace of mind.

Thank you for your answer I went again to the clinic they did another ultra sound and it show no pregnancy. She check to see if I had a n ectopic pregnancy she said everything is fine and that should let my body recover. I still having a positive test after 3 weeks she said it depend on my body how fast the hormones go back to normal. But that I don’t have no pregnancy and that I only have a thin tissue inside nothing to worry. I was worry that the procedures didn’t work. I have no pregnancy symptoms my breast went back to normal.

I did another test this week and still positive they said I have to wait for the hormones but I don’t understand why it taking so long to get back to normal . I did two ultra sound and they both were negative so I don’t understand I need some help here if anybody had this before

09/21/2017 at 9:38 amReply Hello. I had a medical abortion with misoprostal only at 5 weeks. I bled lightly for a couple of days, probably. Two weeks after the abortion I did a pregnancy test at home and it was still positive. I have been having nausea and vomiting in the morning. My breasts get sore sometimes and stomachaches every now and then. What could be the problem please – I am so worried.

It is possible to get a false positive pregnancy test can up to two weeks after having an in-clinic or medication abortion. It could be that the hormone levels are still reflecting the previous pregnancy (which would give the symptoms you describe as well), and they may need a little more time to settle back down to normal.
If you are worried that you may still be pregnant then the best thing you can do is consult with a specialist and they can perform an ultrasound to confirm if the abortion was a success.
