What can be done to reduce heartburn in pregnancy?

Reflux and heartburn is one of the most common discomforts of pregnancy. However, there are some things pregnant women can do to try to reduce it:

  • Eat small, but frequent meals. This will prevent the stomach from becoming too full (which would encourage reflux). It is also advisable to eat slowly and chew well.
  • Avoid heavy meals, fried foods, spicy foods, tea, coffee, chocolate, citrus fruits, tomatoes, soft drinks...
  • After eating, wait before going to bed. It may also help to sleep reclining a little.

Finally, another tip is to wear loose-fitting clothes that do not compress the pregnant woman's abdomen.
