Embryo culture up to the blastocyst stage (day 5) has certain advantages over culture up to day 3 of development. Among them, we can mention:
- Better embryo selection, since more information about the embryo is available.
- Lower multiple pregnancy rate, due to the tendency to transfer a single embryo.
In addition, the transfer on day 5 allows a better synchronization of the embryo with the endometrium, since in a natural conception the embryo reaches the uterus around day 4-5 of embryonic development.
