When the sperm cell finishes the process of crossing the corona radiata and zona pellucida of the egg cell, the next stage if membrane fusion. The goal is that both nuclei remain inside the egg cell, and are able to fuse together to create a single cell with a complete number of chromosomes (46 chromosomes).
