The diagnosis of hypothyroidism can be made through the patient's clinical signs and laboratory tests. A blood test from a person with hypothyroidism will reflect altered hormone values.
The reference values for the T3 and T4 hormones are around 3.5-7.8 pmol/L and 9-25 pmol/L respectively. In addition, the TSH should be between 0.4 and 4.5 mIU/L.
