Sometimes it happens that the woman's immune system recognises the embryo as foreign and attacks it. As a result of this aggression, implantation failure and recurrent miscarriages occur.
This usually occurs when the woman has a high number of Natural Killer or NK cells. These are a type of lymphocyte whose function is to destroy structures that are not recognised by the body.
