In vitro maturation (IVM) of oocytes is an ART technique that consists of maturing immature oocytes in the laboratory until they reach the stage of maturity or metaphase II as shown in the image. The duration of this procedure can range from 24-48 hours and is carried out in a culture medium with controlled conditions.
Oocyte maturation is essential, as the egg must be mature in order to be fertilized by the sperm.
