Macroscopic semen study

The World Health Organization (WHO) establishes a series of reference values for each analysis of different semen parameters. In this way it is possible to assess whether a man is suffering from male infertility.

The macroscopic parameters of semen refer to those aspects that can be evaluated with the naked eye, without the use of a microscope. Within these parameters the following are distinguished:

  • Volume: normally between 2 and 4 mL.
  • Liquefaction.
  • Viscosity.
  • pH, which must be a basic pH..
  • Color: semen has a yellowish gray color.
