Normal vs. clotted periods

Many women pass blood clots during menstruation. If not accompanied by other symptoms, this need not be a cause for concern.

Clots may have a thick texture or a jelly-like appearance and are usually no larger than the size of a coin. In addition, the color of menstrual clots may vary from a deep red to a dark brownish-red if they occur at the end of the period.
