When the results of the triple screen report a high risk index (RI) of chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus, the pregnant woman is offered the possibility of having another more reliable prenatal test such as amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling. Finally, these tests will result in a definitive diagnosis which can be positive or negative.
