In order to know a woman's most fertile days, it will be essential to determine which day ovulation is most likely to occur. The periovulatory period is the time of maximum fertility, since it is the time when the egg and sperm are most likely to meet.
Generally speaking, ovulation occurs 14 days before menstruation. However, it is important to keep in mind that a woman's fertile period begins about 4-5 days before ovulation, as this is the time that sperm can survive in the woman's reproductive tract waiting for the egg. Contrastlingly, the fertile days end approximately one day after ovulation, because the oocyte only survives about 24 hours.
