Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is one of the risks involved in undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment due to the high amounts of hormonal drugs administered to the patients.
In cases where a mild or moderate OHSS occurs, doctors will instruct the woman to rest and drink plenty of fluids. In addition, it is recommended that alcohol and caffeine be avoided, as well as sexual relations. When the woman cannot stand the pain, she can take some painkillers, but always under a doctor's prescription.
