In each menstrual cycle, the woman manages to develop an ovarian follicle that will mature and expel an egg that can be fertilized.
In an assisted reproduction treatment, specifically in vitro fertilization (IVF), the aim is to achieve a greater number of these follicles developed, in order to have more chances of achieving pregnancy. This is achieved through the administration of hormonal drugs in a process known as controlled ovarian stimulation.
