To try to find out the causes of menstrual pain or dysmenorrhea, the gynecologist will perform a check-up and physical examination of the woman. In addition, an ultrasound is usually performed and, if the specialist suspects pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), a cervical culture.
However, if these tests have failed to provide an accurate diagnosis, other imaging tests or even laparoscopy may be performed.
