Clomiphene citrate is a hormonal drug that induces ovulation in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This drug inhibits the effect of estrogens, thereby continuing the production of gonadotropins. The consequence of this mechanism of action is that there is increased follicular growth.
However, like any other drug, clomiphene citrate can have side effects. These include the following:
- Hot flashes.
- Vaginal bleeding.
- Swelling of the breasts.
- Nausea.
