When is hospitalization for PID indicated?

Normally, the first approach for pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is outpatient treatment with antibiotics. However, sometimes, it is not possible to administer these drugs or there is a treatment failure, so the next step would be hospitalization of the patient.

On other occasions, in the case of pregnant women or women suffering from PID grade II or III, it is also necessary to resort directly to hospitalization. In the same way, women with a history of uterine alterations or an uncertain diagnosis between ectopic pregnancy, appendicitis or PID will remain in the hospital until determined by the physician.
