Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that causes a high production of androgens. This causes women to have alterations in their menstrual cycles, as well as an absence of ovulation (anovulation).
It should be noted that PCOS and the presence of an ultrasound image of polycystic ovaries are not the same thing.
