During gestation, the breasts undergo a series of important physiological changes, as they must be prepared for lactation. Among these changes are the following:
- Increased sensitivity, tension and swelling.
- Increased size.
- Enlargement of areolas and nipples, which also darken.
- Appearance of Montgomery's tubercles.
- Increased visibility of superficial veins.
Finally, the woman may also notice, towards the end of pregnancy, the secretion of colostrum.
