Skin changes in pregnancy

In pregnancy it is quite common that brown spots may appear on the skin of the face, which is called chloasma gravidarum, related to hormonal changes that lead to increased pigmentation of the skin.

However, areas such as the mammary areolas and nipples, vulva, perineum, armpits, inner thighs and a line from the navel to the pubis (linea nigra) may also darken.

On the other hand, stretch marks may also appear on the abdomen, hips, breasts, thighs... caused by the stretching to which the skin is subjected during pregnancy.
