Artificial insemination is not always enough to achieve pregnancy in serodiscordant couples. On the one hand, it is necessary that the man has very good semen quality so that, once the sample has been processed, he has a concentration good enough to be able to perform an artificial insemination.
In addition, there cannot be alterations in the feminine fertility that hinder getting pregnant by this technique. For example, if the woman has obstructed fallopian tubes, it will not be possible to achieve gestation through insemination.
Finally, some specialists prefer to perform an IVF-ICSI to minimize the risk of theoretical infection that may occur if an artificial insemination is performed, as it introduces sample in the woman.
