Although tobacco can affect the fertility of men and women and, therefore, the possibility of achieving a pregnancy, smoking also has negative effects on pregnancy. Among them, we can mention the following:
- Ectopic pregnancy.
- Spontaneous abortion.
- Intrauterine growth restriction.
- Placenta praevia.
- Premature labor.
- Low birth weight.
In addition, there could also be a negative effect for the male embryo in terms of its future seminal quality if the mother smokes during pregnancy, due to intrauterine exposure.
