When a male fails to achieve a natural pregnancy, it is best to have a semen analysis performed. If the result is that there are no sperm in the ejaculate, an attempt can be made to retrieve sperm through different procedures and use them in an in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment.
Testicular biopsy is one option to obtain sperm. The man will not feel pain, as it is performed under anesthesia. Another option would be to aspirate sperm directly from the epididymis or testicle.
