When a woman with a tubal ligation wants to become pregnant, she has two options: re-canalization of the fallopian tubes and in vitro fertilization (IVF).
In the case of IVF, no reversal of the sterilization method is required. If the ligation is properly done, the woman's uterus and ovaries are not affected, so the patient still has ovulation and menstruation.
By contrast, tubal reversal is an intervention that is not 100% effective. For this reason, it is possible that after undergoing recanalization surgery, the woman continues not to become pregnant and there is also an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy.
