The first confirmatory ultrasound scan of the pregnancy is performed in the second month of gestation. In this ultrasound it is possible to observe the gestational sac and hear the heartbeat at around week 8 of pregnancy.
The specialist will take the measurements of the embryo and determine whether it is a developing pregnancy. In addition, this ultrasound will make it possible to assess whether it is a singleton or twin pregnancy depending on the number of gestational sacs that are visualised.
