It is true that vaginal discharge undergoes certain changes that are completely normal throughout the menstrual cycle. Therefore, knowing these normal variations, a woman will be able to know when her vaginal discharge has characteristics that are not the usual ones.
Thus, if there are more or less sudden changes in the characteristics of vaginal discharge (such as quantity, odor, color and texture), it could be alerting of a possible infection: bacterial vaginosis, a sexually transmitted disease (STD) or vaginal candidiasis.
