When a woman has not had a period for several months and has had a negative pregnancy test, it is time to consult a specialist. The same is true if a woman has heavy and/or painful periods.
In addition, another reason to consult a gynecologist is if there is bleeding between periods. All these symptoms could be indicative of irregular menstruation and are usually repeated for at least three months, so they are not transitory.
